We want Wild Mountain to be successful today, and successful in 100 years from today.  That means we need to make investments for the good of our campus and the climate.

Improvements are being made from laptop to mountaintop to improve the guest experience.  Plus, we are making decisions that address carbon emissions, waste diversion and support renewable energy.

Our investments in the physical property and the environment are just getting started.  We still have a long road ahead of us, but we hope you’ll notice our efforts on this journey.

All of these investments have a common thread – we intend to Keep It Wild.  What’s that mean?  It’s simple - Wild Mountain is a special place and 100% Minnesota.  We intend to retain the vibe that been humming here for the last 59 years.

Environmental Initiatives

CARBON MONITORING

CARBON MONITORING

In September of 2020 we began working with Natural Capital Partners to measure our carbon footprint.  Measurement of the carbon we are emitting is a critical step in the long-term assessment and reduction of our carbon-emitting practices.

ECO-FRIENDLY RETAIL

ECO-FRIENDLY RETAIL

We’ve added a new line of eco-friendly retail items that are made from 100% recycled fabric (50% plastic, 50% recycled cotton) which creates a soft and bright fabric that uses 10-times less water and fossil fuels to create.  Over time, we hope our entire logo collection will be made from this recovered fabric.

LED LIGHT CONVERSION

LED LIGHT CONVERSION

We installed our first LED light on the Front Stage trail. LED lighting is much more efficiant than our current metal halide lighting.  Going forward, we plan to use LEDs to replace our existing flood lights across our slopes.

IMPROVED RECYCLING

IMPROVED RECYCLING

We are eliminating single-use plastic beverage bottles and moving to infinitely recycleable aluminum bottles.  To support that, we’ve added recycling receptacals across our property to support recycling and reduce waste.

SINGLE-USE PLASTIC REDUCTION

SINGLE-USE PLASTIC REDUCTION

Wild Mountain created 288,000 pieces of single-use plastic waste in the past year. That's too much, and we are working to stop that with the elimination of single-use plastic on our property. We’ve moved to durable cutlery and food service wares in the goal of reducing the amount of plastic we add to the waste stream. stream.

100% CLEAN ENERGY

100% CLEAN ENERGY

Our team partnered with 3Degrees to offset the dirty energy coming to Wild Mountain with Renewable Energy Certificates generated from sources in Minnesota.  Wild Mountain now operates year-round on 100% clean energy created in the Land of 10,000 Lakes.

ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING

ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING

Telsa chargers were installed to support the needs of the emerging clean vehicle market.  These two chargers are available to all guests, free of charge.

  • CHAIRLIFT REFURBISHMENT

We are updating our chairlifts to make them more beautiful and extend their life.  The carriers on Chairlifts 1 and 2 have been repainted and new oak slats have been added to give them gorgeous vintage look.  Plus, we’ve repainted many of the lift buildings and added barn quilt signage as a nod to the regions Swedish heritage.  We’ll make these same improvements to Chairs 3 and 4 in future seasons.

  • RETAIL EXPERIENCE

We’ve reimagined our retail area to add space and create a more enjoyable shopping experience.  Plus, we've increased our inventory to add more logo gear, glassware and essentials.

  • BASE CAMP

We’ve invested in a 2,400 square foot, heated tent that will act as outdoor dining during the pandemic. In the summer months, this new tent will be used for weddings in our outdoor ceremony location. Covid-19 gave us lemons, so we made lemonade.

  • RENTAL EQUIPMENT

The beginner experience is critically important to growing participation in winter sports.  And, learning on modern gear makes the first day on snow even better.  So, we have begun the multi-year process of updating our rental equipment fleet.

  • ECOMMERCE

Our online shopping experience has been enhanced with a new ecommerce site.  Now guests can purchase all of our service online with a single shopping cart.
